Gas Plumber

Only registered or licensed plumber can undertake gas plumbing job. What constitutes a gasfitting work is described by Plumbing Industry Commission in Victoria as: "installation, replacement, repair, alteration, maintenance, testing or commissioning of any pipe, appliance, flue, fitting, apparatus, control or other item that is involved with the supply or use of gas".

The above definition of gasfitting work refers only to the fitting downstream of the outlet of a customer billing meter. It includes:

• Gas plumbing work done on any gas appliance
• Roof work, which is necessary for the gas plumbing work to be undertaken
• Any design work which, is necessary for the gas plumbing work to be undertaken

Gasfitting work does not include:

• Any specialised gasfitting work
• Any paintwork, cleaning, preparation etc. regarding gas pipes and joints
• The connection or disconnection of a gas storage container for the purpose of filling or refilling the container

Currently, the gas plumbing work in Victoria may require Compliance Certificate AS 5601-2004. Provisions of Gas Safety Act 1997 for any gas installations must be applied.

Water Plumber

Plumbing Industry Commission in Victoria states that water plumber can construct, install, replace, repair, alterate, maintain, test or commission the following:

• Any part of a hot or cold water service that is connected to a drinking water (from the point of connection to the water supply to the points of discharge of the service)
• Any part of a non-drinking hot or cold water service or rainwater service (from the point of connection to the water supply to the points of discharge of the service)
• Any hot water service in or on a caravan or vessel
• Any design work that is required to undertake water plumbing work

In Victoria only registered or preferably licensed plumber can undertake water plumbing work.

Hot Water Plumber

Gas is the most cost effective and efficient way to heat up your water. There are usually 2 types of services: tank and instantaneous gas hot water service.

Both systems require specialised registered or (preferably) licensed hot water plumber. In both cases compliance certificate (AS 5601) may be required.

Plumbing Maintenance
